I’m honestly not sure what it is hoping to find out? Possibly a eastern garter?

A REQUEST:
When recommending an identification, please adhere to current standards of taxonomy as deployed by iNaturalist at this time — as opposed to identifying and classifying organisms based on personal beliefs about what taxonomy can, should, or of right ought to be in opposition to iNaturalist’s current taxonomy. Comments noting such taxonomic disagreements, however, are welcomed and encouraged. I prefer my observations to be inline with current taxonomic standards as deployed by iNaturalist (as opposed to my personal beliefs) so that this and other observations are readily accessible to iNaturalist users with greater efficiency and usability. Thanks!

Thamnophis elegans ssp. terrestris (Coast Garter Snake)
Saw this fellow slowly gobbling up a little baby rodent, by a dried-up creek a bit west from Bechtel House.
It swam a bit in the water before settling on the rocks and moving the rodent down...
Unfortunately, I can't tell whether it's an aquatic or terrestrial garter snake.
Unique Color morph
I was hiking around Coe today and had seen quite a few newts. It occured to me that I didn't know what eats them since I heard recently that they are quite toxic. I saw quite a few garter snakes near this pond but didn't see many newts(perhaps for obvious reasons ;-) )I found this paper (http://www.springerlink.com/content/wm0712gkq4704p2u/) on Garter Snakes that have developed resistance to tetrodotoxin after receiving Kueda's input on the ill fated newt submission.
Garter snake found in the area of Vallejo. According to California Herps this is considered an Intergrade of the following subspecies. They believe that it grabbed the Vole due to the recent drought.

Blotched VS Diamondback!! Who will win?
County Record! Large female found by landowners and held long enough for me to stop by and document. She was 56.1 inches in length, .6 inches shy of the state length record. Definitely the largest wild Corn I have ever worked with. She was pretty docile, but she did give me a good lazy bite on my index finger after 15 minutes of handling. She was released, unharmed on the property, but a bit farther off the road.
Found by Lake Sutherland, Olympic Penninsula
One of four species of garter snake found within 500 feet of each other, all within one hour.
