Meropleon titan. Photographed at Norfolk County, Ontario on 30 September 2020. It's never a good idea to leave an area with one more warm night in the forecast! Thus it was no surprise when Mary Gartshore sent me a photo of a mystery moth. Without knowing its size I suggested Meropleon, but not one I was familiar with. She got back to me with a total length measurement of 21.5mm - M. titan? This was a moth I had to see! A few hours later I was photographing it... Size alone, I think, makes it this species, but the FW pattern (quite patterned in the distal half of the wing) also is a good match. If deemed acceptable this would be an unexpected first for Ontario and Canada I think.

Two individuals captured in two light traps overnight. They were captured in and near a stand of Eastern Gamagrass Tripsacum dactyloides that was planted by seed around 2003. Each measures approximately 23 mm. This one may be a female. See last year's observation of this species at the same site posted by David Beadle.
