One of those don't know what you've got when you have it. I thought this was a black horsefly from a distance when I saw it. Snapped a couple of photos and moved on. Now looking at the poor photos I am guessing a wasp of some sort?

I believe this is a Crested Caracara. It appears to be a juvenile and it has taken up shelter in my front shrubs. It is over a foot tall.
