Swainson's Hawk capturing Mexican Freetail Bat in flight, Armendariz Ranch private property
Heard the kite smack into a tree branch and didn't realize what it was doing until it dropped this guy from above!
Bird on the left. The harrier attempted to steal the owl's meal, however the vole was dropped in the attack.
Seen in a cypress in a mixed forest with coniferous and eucalyptus trees.
Dueting and then mating.
North lake is nearby.
slowly approached on a ship. waited as bear swam towards us, looked around, then left us
Juvenile corn snake (possibly the same one from yesterday), eating an unfortunate brown anole that got mobbed by nesting fish crows. I think my presence kept the snake from becoming breakfast.
Probably 5 feet long. Looked very healthy and unblemished for it's age.
I've never seen this behavior before. I thought it was a turtle at first glance. It stayed in this position until I had completely passed by, them emerged an flew toward the clutch observed nearby.
Found dead on road. Stupid roads/stupid people driving too fast to avoid a glorious rattlesnake!
Awwww...This HAS to be my all time fave!!!
Blanding's are known as the smiling turtle..& most pics I've see of them they are smiling...except get a load of photo #2, the one on the right is NOT smiling...Interesting...maybe the other had bad turtle breath or something....
However in the last pic the one on the right has this real smirk on its face, with the half closed eyes...are they flirting?
The little Midland is looking at them as much to say, what are you two up to anyways?
Posting is for the 2 Blanding's
It was a magical moment. Hidden in the fall leaves slithered a garter snake, my very first!
I went to get a photo of a ditch and after I turned around, just a few feet away, there it was. I didn't realize it was there at first. But once I did, I couldn't stop smiling!
The snake slithered around before coming to a stop. It looked forward, raised its head, and click! Onto iNat it goes. What a cutie!
That snake was one of the highlights of the day. I hope to see more!
Location not exact! Seen on Punda sunset drive
