Found in a wet&dry mesic sand prairie under artificial cover. Ambient was high 50s but sunny and the cover was 98 degrees.

In honour of this year's Great Backyard Bird Count, which runs from Feb 15th-18th

man on horse: "what is that?"
me: "I think it's a jack-in-the-pulpit fruit"
him: "what"
me: "like the seeds of a flower from last year"
him: um
him: "and you're taking a picture of it?"
me: "um yeah"

Not sure what the rose sp. is, found a couple in a seeded "natural landscape" and suspect they aren't native. D. rosea seems to use a couple different Eurasian roses as host.

One individual in a flock of about 65. The flock was observed on our homestead on the morning of December 31st during the Riverside-Albert Christmas Bird Count.

Nice young adult female sunning itself and feeding a bit in the warm, sheltered micro-climate there.
