It’s a fur seal. However, I’m still learning to distinguish AU from long nosed fur seals in this area.
This one was doing an interesting back bend that I had to capture.

This is Neil the seal. Juvenile male southern elephant seal. NRE and the Marine conservation program are monitoring sightings. He is tagged and of known age, born on the Tasman peninsula. Has returned two years in a row to Tasmania for a winter haul out.
Also my study species of my PhD project so this encounter was extra special.
