Chestnut-naped Francolin (Pternistis castaneicollis), DSC_8657.JPG
Two different birds. photo 1 shows one individual, photo 2, 3 and 4 show the second individual. Although I tried many nights to locate the common call of the Nkulengu rails around the Imbalanga station, I did not manage to see one due to the dense marantaceae vegetation and lack of trails. The birds will respond on playback but will keep quiet if you get closer. They will never leave their roosting site at night and you will therefore not be able to lure them. If you want to see a Nkulengu rail at night your best chance is to sneak up to their roosting tree (which appears to be different each night). With cameratraps I found that they are day-active and managed to lure two birds in the middle of the day after only 2 minutes playing their call.
