The Sandhill Crane is a striking bird species found in Florida, easily noticeable by its tall, slender build and gray feathers. This specific crane had red skin on the top of its head. In the photo, the crane was found on the USF campus, however, cranes are a common in wetlands, swamps, and freshwater marshes. The Sandhill Crane is part of the Gruidae family and its most distinctive characteristics are their long necks, legs, and their large size.
