second bird count:
-the grey ducks were mainly resting in the shrubs and flax plants along the Avon River
-these shrubs provided security and protection to the ducks
Field Notes - 2 post lunch bunns
In a paddock with a flock of Black billed gull
Poor photograph but I saw it run from one side of The Cobblers to the other and it had a definite fox shape and tail.
Sighting and photos (c) tingle6.
I suspect this is a grey duckling based on the colouration of its apparent parents, Although it could easily be a Mallard.
I have been watching this large family of ducklings slowly grow up over the previous few weeks. Most have so far survived,
Its fluffy duckling weathers have started to be replaced with more adult plumage.
Calling for several minutes. Audio is very faint, but includes continuous "yip yip yip".
Guessing cockatoo as there was a flock roosting in mature kauri above the location where the eggs shells were found. The eggs seemed too large for other forest birds in this area.
