Kendall Area Christmas Bird Count with Valeri Ponzo. This count was entirely on foot, After parking just inside Old Cutler Road, we walked the eastern perimeter to beyond the ponds (with an American Crocodile!), then slowly walked clockwise through the center of the property, visiting all the hammocky areas. On the way out we returned to the ponds (hoping to refind and photograph the crocodile -- nada) then returned to Val's car. The weather at the start was overcast, 53 degrees ("feels like" 50 degrees, and breezy (winds from the northwest at 11-14 MPH). From 1250-1310, the sun came out, it warmed up, and the winds died down; many of our landbirds were active during this period. We left at 1428 and headed to "Pinewoods Park."
We are extremely grateful to Tracy Magellan, the center's Outreach Manager, for access to this great spot.
