Purple fruitbodies growing by alder,
Black KOH
Indistinct odor,
Mild UV on gills,
Lovely lavender gills,
Indistinct taste
Under Oak; KOH rxn: weak - pale yellow on cap & flesh, dark brownish-gray at stipe apex and gills, negative at base of stipe; taste: mild & indistinct; odor: indistinct to me, however, a friend detected a faint caramel odor, and another friend thought it smelled like sourdough bread.

under Quercus agrifolia; I guess this is probably Rubroboletus eastwoodiae, but I'm not sure... Still trying to figure out all the variations!

under Quercus agrifolia; might be Rubroboletus eastwoodiae... but maybe not! We found many fruitbodies with two distinct forms and variations in color, but no intermediate forms connecting the two. We weren't sure if they were all variations of Rubroboletus eastwoodiae or if they were different species.

Beautiful, small Cortinarius growing from soil in young Populus tremuloides grove. Warner Mountains, Modoc NF
Reduced annulus with rusty spore deposit about half way down stipe, pronounced purple coloration at stipe apex. Conical pileus and sub-decurrent lamellae
Taste mild, smell indistinct

In scrubland with Ephedra sp. Off-white truffle buried in the soil, centrally attached by a point. Gleba light tan, all parts staining yellowish.
Came into the MSSF fungus fair - saved for DNA barcoding
On moss. Mycelium interwoven into the moss. Spores round and bumpy, with large oil droplet.
Under hemlock, birch, and tulip poplar. Growing in small scattered clusters.
Growing under oak, birch, and hemlock. Growing in large groups. Pale orange, almost peach in color and more of an orange at the base of the stipe.
