The observation of fungi that I am going to look further into is the Silverleaf Fungus. This species of fungi is actually a fungal disease that affects a vast range of deciduous trees including primarily fruit trees but also trees such as willow, maple or oak (Zoeren, 2021). Silver leaf disease is observed both on older dying trees, as well as young and healthy trees. In my observation, I found this fungi on a stump of wood that looked old and decaying. It comes from the fungus Chondrostereum purpureum (Zoeren, 2021). This fungus lives in the xylem. The fungus releases a toxin and moves into the leaves of the tree separating the epidermis, eventually causing the wood to decay and the fungus starts producing conks (Zoeren, 2021).
