Polemonium

One of the most outstanding flowers in the Sierra. You only see it above 12,000 feet. Incredibly fragrant. Look for it in late June, early July on alpine passes: Kearsarge, Glen, Forester etc.

Descripción

Skypilot, Polemonium eximium. Probably the most fragrant flower in the Sierra. Very short blooming period (early July) in Sierra above 11,800 feet -- seen on many Sierra passes. This one just below Glen Pass, Kings Canyon National Park, CA.

I'll have to plan a high country backpacking trip for late July and go looking for it. On an unrelated note, do you have any recommendations for early summer backpacking trips in the Sierras? Possibly one that won't involve sacrificing liters of blood to the local mosquitoes?
