Reservoir Walk on October 20th, 2022

It was a nice, but very cold Thursday morning. I prefer to take a walk in the morning because it gives me inner peace and gives me energy to go through the day. This walk I focused on observing plants and mostly trees. Even though some of them were familiar, when I looked deep into it, there were conifers and deciduous trees. There was a plant named pokeweed mosaic virus whose leaves were very funny-looking. I believe that all of these are angiosperms which produce seeds. Although these new categorizing method for plants was new to me, I think I can now distinguish what kind of plants it is.

Reservoir Walk on October 6, 2022

I like to walk in the morning when morning dews are still on the leaves. It was right after rain has stopped, so it was somewhat cold to walk. However, morning walk is still my favorite because the air feels so clean and clear. When I was first assigned to take photos of fungi, I did not think there would be a lot of fungi present in the wild. However, in a relatively short amount of time, I could see so many different kinds of fungi. One of them looks like a cotton candy, while one of them looks like a big umbrella. While I was walking, I thought about phylogeny. I observed six different fungi, but they are very vividly different. They must have had a common ancestor who gave rise to these various species of fungi. Out of the six species, I believe that there are two that look morphologically similar: first and fifth one.

Reservoir walk on September 29, 2022

This is my first nature walk. The weather was very nice and so was the sky. Autumn breeze was very delightful and breathed life into my body which was exhausted from midterm week. Along the Reservoir, there are some wild forests, and even though I live in Reservoir apartments, I actually never had a chance to take a walk around the reservoir. It was a pleasant experience. While I walked, I saw rabbits and squirrels, but I could not capture them in photos. Therefore, I decided to take observations of unique plants. What I noticed was that there are a lot of broadleaf trees in New England region. Maybe broadleaf trees are naturally fit in the region. Of all the observations, I liked a plant with yellow "flowers" because it captured my eyes the moment I saw it.
