Natural Area: Washington

I was in Northern Central Washington this past week and I was able to see some amazing trees. It was pretty sweet to see how different the environment and naturally grown plants were there. I was in the National Forest near Stehekin and although the weather was warm, there was a ton of snow. The lake that we hiked to was still frozen over! It was pretty awesome. I loved seeing this natural area.

Natural Area Post

I found these plants in a few different places! The smaller ones coming out of the sidewalk are ones I found on a walk around my neighborhood- they looked different than the other weeds, and seemed especially interesting to me because they were growing out of the concrete!! I also did a hike on Avila Ridge this week, so the two plants located on Shell Beach Road/Pismo Beach are from there. Those trees were especially interesting to me because of what surrounded them. There were a lot of shrubs on my hike, and being so close to the ocean, I wasn't sure how they would be able to grow but the trees were flourishing! It was really cool to see these trees right over the ocean. Lastly, the plant on the Cabrillo Highway I found this past weekend. I was on a drive north of SLO and pulled off the highway and found a cool trail. This shrub really caught my eye!! I had never seen anything like it before and was really curious to see what it was.

Cuesta Ridge Observing

For these trees that I chose to observe, I went to Cuesta Ridge in San Luis Obispo. I went on a hike and took a few pictures of some trees and plants that captured my eye. It was really cool seeing all of the natural plants that were there, and I can't wait to go back and look at more soon.

Street Tree Project

1) I would choose the bamboo leaves
2)Yes, street trees make my neighborhood more pleasant
3) Pro: Adds diversity to what we see and can educate ourselves on/ Con: takes away education and knowledge on native plants, maybe disrupts the growing process
