Observation license choice

CC-BY (or CC-BY-NC) for observations [and not CC-BY-SA that we previously recommended).
CC-BY-SA for pictures and sounds (specific observations, sounds and pictures can be further restricted).

That decision goes back to before 2014, where GBIF ran a lengthy consultation, resulting in a decision to only support a limited set (CC BY, CC BY-NC and CC0) for occurrence datasets. More details are still available at https://www.gbif.org/news/82363/new-approaches-to-data-licensing-and-endorsement (especially the detailed community input collected, see the link to the summary of the consultation process at the bottom), as well as the report on the implementation, https://www.gbif.org/news/82812/licensing-milestone-for-data-access-in-gbiforg.

Dianthus ID from Steven Molteno

One needs to see the flower base (calyx) from the side view.

it's actually useful to do this with all plant photos where there are flowers. A photograph of the flower from the side helps with IDing so many plant groups,

Undescribed species and taxa

Note as per Tony Rebelo:

ID as genus Asparagus.
Add the project "Undescribed Species and Taxa" (you have to join it first)
In the field "New species reference and name:" add the text 'Asparagus decipiens MS'

To find all instances use this url, or alternatively click on the text "New species reference and name:" and select an appropriate option:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?verifiable=any&place_id=any&field:New%20species%20reference%20and%20name=Asparagus%20decipiens%20MS
(select the ID tool - after it is published and in the iNat dictionary - to update, but dont delete the observation field: it has historic value).

** Keep it simple. the field is sensitive to case, space and lace. I dont recommend using 'Asparagus decipiens (Baker) S.M.Burrows & J.E. Burrows, in prep.' - far too many options for mistyping variants.

We encourage @mpandeli31 and @nqobza22 to increase their observations as they both made just 1 observation for the month
