Slime mold - but which?
The patch with the dark brown spot is a few days older. The patch is where I rubbed off the outer crust.
When I started to learn taxonomy, i was taught of only two kingdoms: plants and animals.
The fungi i have not learned properly at all.

What is this green worm-like creature? It ate all of the leaves off of my baby oak tree!!!
I didn't see him/her at meal time, but yesterday i saw an identical critter hanging from a fine silk thread in a mature oak tree, so it is the culprit.

Who is dis??? A bug that lives in a cedar forest here in Dunsmuir, CA USA. I'm pretty sure that his kind burrow in the cambium layer of cedar trees (and probably other tree species too.). At some point in their life cycle, I'm pretty sure that they sprout wings and migrate around.
This guy was found in my cedar wood pile today, April 8, 2022.
