This is NOT the correct name, Viola edulis Spach is the earliest correct name, but I cannot correct the system. The species us common in the recently flooded microsites along Hunter Creek, a few plants still in chasmogamous flower, some in cleistogamous fruit. Plants mostly have a single shallowly lobed leaf blade, leaf division late because of the very recent inundation.

Viola "avipes" phenotype of Viola subsinuata with fewer divergent lobes. Relocated old Pond Mountain location. A few scattered plants near the small building at the lookout road end, but a healthy population at the end of the summit ridge as it dips lower, with slightly moister, more organic soil under dry-mesic forest canopy.

Interior Plateau/Appalachian phenotype, which retains its leaves as scape is produced. Cubelium (Hybanthus) concolor a common associate here, with lots of exposed limestone. Plants and smaller colonies scattered over.a fairly large area, at the top of the ridge and on upper slopes.
