Descripción

Found among wrack-line after storms.
While washing out the maggots that were feasting on the decaying remnants of the animal, the operculum popped out still fully intact.
One of the most stunning specimens in my collection, as it is in virtually flawless condition and exhibits the characteristic rusty overlay of the region it was collected.

Two live collected specimens showing the variation in aperture colouration. Hundreds of this species congregate in the shallow, intertidal sand flats of North-West Tasmania to breed. These specimens were highly selected among them.

First time seeing this species alive. Lots of specimens found, especially where the substrate goes from sandy to mud, usually near eggs.
