Thank you to Thomas M for the ID suggestion in another forum for the large insect, as circled.
Common Name: banana stalk fly.
This specimen was trapped and floating in a vinegar pest trap when photographed. The trap was located outside a stingless native bee hive, intended to capture mainly hive phorid fly.
Other contents of the trap include phorid flies and native hive beetles, with a couple of native bee casualties. (The phorid flies appear bloated due to being in the vinegar, showing their striped abdomens that are not normally visible when viewing live specimens.)

Is this in the family of fruit flies? Does not look like the usual Qld fruit fly.

A hive syrphid fly laying eggs on a stingless bee hive. It inserts its ovipositor into cracks or gaps in the hive to lay its eggs. The hive contains a colony of Tetragonula hockingsi stingless bees. The deposited eggs are shown in the third image, after a section of the hive at the joint where the eggs were laid is separated to expose the surface of the gap.

Or is it subspecies Melaleuca viminalis viminalis?
From knowledge of the site's history over past 30 years, it is unlikely that it has been planted so is assumed to have naturally established itself here.
