Descripción

Large shoals of juvenile fish along the margins of the lake near the Sylvan Park boat ramp. Difficult to make out much detail but they had red fins, and several had red heads.

Apologies for the quality of the images, I only had my cell phone.

Descripción

The observation is for the white species swimming behind the whale shark's eye. There also appears to a black remora (?Remora remora) swimming over the shark's pectoral fin, and a centrolophid swimming above the pectoral fin base.

2-2.5 m white shark observed by Greg Bundle, Raftec NZ Ltd.

Circumstances of the sighting were described as:

"It came up our burley trail while fishing off marker MW15 which is at the Katikati end of the Tauranga harbour. We were in 12’ of water on an outgoing tide at midday. Water temp 17 deg."

Numerous 'biogenic balls' composed of these small serpulid tubes and sponges formed around one or two Austrofusus glans or Struthiolaria papulosa shells found washed up between Uretiti Camp Ground and Ruakaka. None noted south of the camp.

Other species noted in the balls were Cominella adspersa eggs, encrusting bryozoans and oysters.
