Salviniales from the genus Marsilea in Indonesia are easily found on rice field dikes or irrigation canal banks. The morphology of this genus is unique, because its enthalal shape resembles an umbrella composed of four opposite leaflets. As a result of the shape of the leaves, the name "clover" is used for several types of dicotyledonous plants that have similar leaves, such as a klover. All members are heterosporous: have two different types of spores. The leaves of this plant (usually M. crenata) are commonly used as a food ingredient known as pecel clover, typical of the Surabaya area. Spore-storing organs (called sporocarp). drummondii is also used by aboriginal Australians as food. Clover M. crenata is known to contain phytoestrogens (plant estrogens) which have the potential to prevent osteoporesis. This plant also has potential as a bioremediation plant, because it can absorb heavy metals Cd and Pb. This ability needs to be watched out for the use of clover leaves as food, especially if the leaves are taken from heavy metal contaminated land.
