Descripción

I believe this bird represents subspecies Turdus plumbeus rubripes of central and western Cuba for the below reasons, and may coincide with the passage of Hurricane Delta which intensified up to the status of category 4 south of the Cayman Islands on October 6 and passed by the western edge of Cuba and striking the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico as a category 2 on October 7 before turning northwestward to ultimately strike Louisiana as a category 2 on October 10.

The detailed descriptions published within Birds of the World (https://birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/relthr1/cur/systematics#geovar) describe the three most relevant and morphologically similar subspecies as listed at bottom. Taking from those details, the Florida bird seems to exhibit traits most closely associated with T. p. rubripes in that it has a more white throat and malar area appearing as "black with thin white stripes", "clear orange lower flanks and belly to vent" with whitish undertail coverts and "tarsi and toes orange-red." These features differ somewhat from T. p. coryi in that it's underparts having slightly stronger orange coloration (based on examination of available photos online) and orangish-red feet vs. coryi's "tarsi and toes bright red." Turdus plumbeus schistaceus was eliminated in my analysis due to the lack of a "beige to orange coloration...on the vent area" of this specimen.

These features can be noted in the photos taken by the observer and included in this account.

Descriptions from Birds of the World:

"Turdus plumbeus schistaceus: this subspecies from eastern Cuba is overall a little darker than nominate. The throat area has black reaching further down the underside but the black is often in broad streaks; white around the chin and malar more extensive; black lores extending further onto the cheek and ear coverts dark gray. The most obvious difference from nominate is the beige to orange color on rear flanks and vent area. Bare parts: coral red tarsi, toes, and eyering; bill dark red with dusky tip.

Turdus plumbeus rubripes: mostly similar to schistaceus, which rubripes replaces in central and western Cuba, Cayo Coco, and Isle of Pines (= Isla de Juventud). T. p. rubripes has more white in throat and malar area, so that throat most often appears as black with thin white stripes. It also has clear orange lower flanks and belly to vent, while undertail coverts are whitish. Underwing coverts have edges with an orange wash. Bare parts: bill dark red with darker tip; eyering usually red; tarsi and toes orange-red. The area of hybridization with T. p. schistaceus is centered on a line from Gibara (Holguín province), in the N, to Cabo Cruz (Granma province), in the S, and hybrids are also found around Santiago de Cuba, Bayamo and Guamá (Kirkconnell et al. in prep.).

Turdus plumbeus coryi: this subspecies from Cayman Brac is similar to T. p. rubripes but differs in being slightly paler overall and in showing underparts, especially the flanks, with less strong orange. Bare parts: bill dark red with darker tip; eyering bright red; tarsi and toes bright red."
