I saw this plant growing in a state park in NJ in the fall and it appeared to be some sort of possibly tropical, non-native species. There were no others like it in the vicinity nor have I ever seen it anywhere else in NJ. I imagined it might be dead after the winter, but sure enough it was alive and well in the spring.

I'm guessing this is Hesperoleon abdominalis but that's just based on the common type of antlion known to live in this area of NJ.

What appears to be an axanthic green frog in a suburban pond next to a normal specimen.

Note the burned skin on the lower portion of the body. Nearby I found a diamondback rattlesnake that had been burned to death.
