There are six Red-tailed Hawks and a Turkey Vulture in this photo. The hawks had been fighting over a carcass when I saw them, continued for the 15 minutes or so I took photos, and were still fighting when I left. They were on an "island" in the flooded reserve. I posted a series of photos on Google Photos at this link for anyone interested:https://photos.app.goo.gl/H49PxtR8ZF4GW4NFA

In this photo the bird on the right has the right foot of the other bird in its beak and the other bird most likely has the right foot of its opponent in its beak. When I first decided to photograph them they were so exhausted they were lying on their sides, side by side, head to tail with each having the right foot of the other in its beak. When I returned with my camera, they had moved into the photographed position in the same place and still paid me no mind even though I was only a few inches away with the camera lens. Now, how did they come to be there?

I was in the house looking at a wisteria vine on the opposite side of my car in the driveway, and my wife and I were getting ready to go out. I saw a chickadee on a wisteria branch doing a begging/fluttering behavior when something streaked from out of view and hit the chickadee and both disappeared on the opposite side of the car. It took a few minutes for us to get outside, and when my wife got to the other side of the car, she said there were two chickadees rolling around in a tight ball under the car. When I knelt to look, they flew, still connected, a few feet away to the other side of a picket fence where they collapsed side by side as described above. We watched for a couple of minutes, wondering what was happening. One of the birds was motionless and we thought it might be dead. I went over to get a closer look and they allowed me to stand right over them so I could see how they were entangled and realized it was a fight, not a love match. A few seconds after I got the photo they suddenly flew up, separated, into the wisteria and acted like nothing had happened. Then they flew off in a further chase.

We thought only the females begged/fluttered during mating season so were wondering what was the fight likely about. Do females fight? Was a male attacking a female who was in the wrong territory? Was the begging bird a male?

I should mention that we have feeders on the side of the house a few feet from where the fight took place, and we have lots of chickadees visiting them all the time.

This was seen in a tide pool about 6 inches deep. The worm is about 2 inches long. I am not sure it is one creature or one being fed on by hundreds of other smaller worms.
