I’m pretty sure beetle in photo 3 is the same individual, but if that’s wrong let me know. 4th photo shows flash of red exposed when flying. Crawled up on a stem in the evening and remained still there for at least ten minutes or so.

I noticed lots of insects flying in the same direction, slightly upward, through the window and went with a net to investigate. Netted one of them and set it down in a shady corner. It crawled pretty quickly so I gently immobilized it by the wings for some photos. I the. let it crawl up on my finger, and it didn’t fly away until I brought it over to the sunny yard, where it joined its comrades in flight. A dragonfly and a flycatcher we’re taking advantage of the passing swarm.
