Descripción

heart shaped leaves, veins in leaf visible with jagged leaf edge. White hairs towards the base of the stem. Growing near a fallen tree and a small pond. Multiple (>15) of the same plant growing nearby to this one.

Descripción

Milkweed pods that have broken and released seeds. At least 7 others in the area that have also released their seeds. They were in an open field in an area where part of the land is recovering from being farmland.

White breasted nuthatch that was whacking the bark of the tree with its bill. There was at least one other nuthatch nearby, there was a little call and response between at least the two of them. (NOTE: in second picture it is in the lower left corner on the trunk. in the third picture it is on the branch facing away from the camera but exposing it's white plumage on its underside)

ID by distinctive "cheerily cheer up" song and calls. Was perched about 20 to 30 feet in the tallest tree in the tree line.

There were about 6-8 Red-Winged Blackbirds in the tree line and around small pond. All had bright red bands on their wings. Vocalizing quite a bit to each other. ID by their very distinctive call.

Average size male cardinal vocalizing from underbrush. Plumage atypically duller and slightly browner on one side of breast. Only cardinal in the underbrush where it was found. The area had tall, younger trees and a small pond.

2 large white patches on the forewings and 2 orange patches on the hindwings

on the ground in the middle of a trail at Roemer Arboretum. Only 1 in the immediate area.

Single flower blooming, two others nearby just starting to open.

Light purple with 6 petals. Growing less than a foot off of the ground. There were two other Sharped-lobed Hepatica growing nearby. Located near a cliff.
