I have found a lichen growing on a tree in my backyard. The lichen is growing mainly on the base of the trunk of the tree closer to the ground and is growing around almost the entirety of the base of the trunk, not just on one side. However it is not seen towards the middle of the trunk or the top of the tree near the branches. The environment is dry.

This organism was found in a grassy area and displays a white coloration with a green stem. The stem is about 2-3 inches long and the plant is about 1 inch in diameter. There appears to be individual pieces of the organism stemming out from the same place to create the full white top. I decided this organism was wild because it seems to be a type of weed rather than an organism that is planted for visual decoration and because it was found in grass, even though it was outside of an apartment complex.
