Observaciones de mhollenshead

This is a patch of red dirt next to a house. Large bees that resemble bumble bees create tubes and tunnels with mud. They swarm all over the area and often enter more than one tunnel before going in for a couple of minutes. The sound of buzzing led me to this important nesting site for native bees. It is located deep in the Piney Woods of northern Louisiana next to a remote house. The bees are calm and do not show any defensive behaviors when approached.

The home owner is aware of their presence and protects their nesting area.
