Today, heard an unusually loud bird call, unlike anything we have heard here before. When we first heard it, we were inside and heard what sounded like a person screaming for help.
On investigating, we could not see the bird, but managed to video the sound, although at the stage the sound was more distant as had flown further into forest. There were Tui singing at the same time.

They're back home!!! I've just heard the first call of the season, of the Shining Cuckoo at Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary, near Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty. The call heralds their arrival back from their long journey from the Solomon Islands.
