Wandered out of a pile of sand in our back garden. Looking online and within iNaturalist I think this looks like a false Katipo spider

One kereru perched in a tree in a local park right in the heart of Lower Hutt. Lots of trees around here though and do see them here fairly frequently. Took some photos but too fuzzy to post.

I saw a group of four birds, flying across the houses at this corner. One was definitely a kereru, the other three may have been but they did look a bit like ordinary pigeons chasing the kereru. There are a lot of ordinary pigeons in this area and as I was negotiating the traffic at the time, I wasn't really able to have a proper look at them. So probably only one kereru.

What an extraordinary trip to work...four kereru in less than about 500 metres. Kereru alive and well in Lower Hutt.

I noticed it swoop past our house and land in a conifer on the other side of our neighbours place. It sat there for about 5 minutes, making small plaintive calls and looking around. Managed to get a few photos. Then it flew off further south across our road toward a couple of tall trees and I briefly saw another similar sized bird swoop at it from those trees, so I think there may have been two of them!

This is really sad...
As we were driving down our hill we spotted a solitary kereru sitting hunkered down on a street light looking very miserable in the rain. This was at 10:32. We came back up the hill half an hour later and saw a dead kereru on the footpath opposite where we'd seen the one on the street light. Hadn't noticed it there on the way down, although of course we were busy looking up. So it could have been a second one (mate to the one on the street light?) or it could have been the one from the streetlight.Hit by a car we assume. Not a good start to our kereru counting.
