Female Hairy cicada flew into lights. Placed in frig overnight to prevent flying into BBQ (and to keep warm- they generate their own heat!) and released today. Beautiful Winter visitor for Sam & Tom at Mt Dandenong

New Yoyetta species (784), in the Y.verrens complex, confirmed by Lindsay, found by Sam and Tom and comes to light (thanks Kees). New species is at top (or left) compared to Yoyetta subalpina (bottom or right).

Male colouring up. Found by Sam in populations together with Yoyetta kershawi, Y.subalpina, Y abdominalis and Y.spectabilis. Yoyetta heaven! Christmas week seems to be the time for these larger tickers to emerge in Vic. NSW ones are "on fire".

Yoyetta grandis and Y subalpina are emerging on cue in the week of Christmas through eastern Melbourne. Heard at Warburton and Selby, caught at Tremont by Sam & Tom while fishing! Male emerging but with malformed wings.
