Typically it is found on the foliage; however, it is seen on the bark of the birch tree, which appears slightly yellowed with green infection, stripping away the bark indicating the Chlorosis. Extreme peeling can also be due to canker fungus that has also affected it. In Tampa, Florida, the weather causes fungus to grow and for Chlorosis to develop leading to the stripping of the tree's bark and ultimately killing the branches off as indicated by the lack of branches where the stubs are seen. The Chlorosis can develop along the tree and on the foliage and there are variations in size as it can spread. The disease is easily adaptable to different habitats but tends to be seen in subtropical areas.
