A very surprising and curious find for this area of Michigan. Seemingly never seen/collected from this region judging from Michigan Flora and checking iNat observations. Quite disjunct!
Growing in a pine sand “barrens” between condos and lakeshore. The flora of this site is very intact and diverse and always a fun walk through since we’ve stayed at this site the last 10+ years. Can’t imagine this is adventive as habitat fits, conservative/quality associates, and who is seeding this uncommon MI species in a touristy/summering spot?
@lianamay you may be interested in this. Told Brad S. and he wanted a collection but of course I’ve already left and found it last night. D’oh. I kept this observation public in case you or he ever want to take a peek. Didn’t scour the whole area but occurs in a couple pockets. Botanical highlight of my week!
