Thick, stiff leaves, urled in along the margin; dark green on the front and light green on the back. Bark is ridged. Could be chestnut oak, but we have a lot of Chestnut oak in the area, and the leaves and bark on this tree aren't exactly what I'm used to seeing.
I found an unusual thick dark-green oak leaf in this area a month ago, that I ID'd as Chinkapin Oak. (See linked observation.) I'm reasonably sure it was from this tree.
