Obviously escaped. In cracks in badly broken up, thin blacktop & gravelly sand "pavement" of an unused parking lot at back of an undeveloped lot in a now old industrial park area. Assoc. w/ scattered weeds (Coronilla varia, Euphorbia maculata, Eragrostis pectinacea, Setaria viridis, Ulmus pumila seedlings). Very local, three plants, two bigger, one small, quite near one another.

Naturalized in field of rank weedy brushy vegetation of an undeveloped lot in a now old industrial park area, readily spreading east-west for some 100 yds. or more, possibly from planted strip along unused driveway at W edge of tract containing Vernonia gigantea, prairie plants, & mugo pine, this also succumbing to pioneering trees (cottonwood, green ash) & weeds. Looks like a tract w/ a deteriorating roughed-in driveway & parking lot that was never developed. Locally abundant, non-native.

Looks like a tract w/ a deteriorating roughed-in driveway & parking lot that was never developed. Only Wisconsin location.

Narrow strip of waste ground between street & corn field, weedy, grassy, & trash-filled, w/ common burdock & Queen-Anne's-lace. Upper stems glabrous & glaucous; frts. appressed, short, the beaks shorter than their bodies, lightly 4-sided.

Relatively open, lowest edge of open oak-hickory woodland. Glumes very slender, 0.8--0.9 mm wide; upper surface of lvs. villosulous. I brought three incomplete stems back to the herbarium, examined them under a microscope, and photographed the inflorescences on a windowsill in the lab.

Plants monoecious; bracts mostly 4.5--5.5 mm; longest tepals of some pistillate flrs. 3.3--3.6 (3.8) mm; seeds obovate in outline, 1.1--1.3 X 1.0--1.1 mm. Site of former farm bldgs., razed this past summer.

Large tree, trunks prostrate to erect (central one damaged & cut off); branchlets readily falling, yellow to greenish-yellow; petioles w/ yellowish to brown or blackish, usually stalked glands at distal end; lvs. glaucous beneath. S shore of N stretch of lagoon at ESE end of A. G. Zimmerman Bridge. (Herb. voucher #15,994.)

Weed in wetland restoration, N shore of lagoon along Sherman Ave. about opposite swimming beach. Tip of fertile lemma w/o straight line of minute pubescence (character discovered by L. H. Shinners, I believe); spklts. relatively small; awn of sterile lemma short, 5 mm or less.

Rolling sand barrens on upper terrace of Wisconsin River. Not-at-all diagnostic picture of a very slender grass, buff-colored at this season--well past its prime. (I did peek under the 'scope at two of the very few remaining spklts...)
