There is a small nibbled milkweed in my strawberry planter, so perhaps this is a monarch? Edit, Sept 12: did some more research, young monarch chrysalis gets these gold flecks like this. Still no butterfly, will check frequently over next few days. Thankfully day temperatures staying at 17-23 degrees next few days

I did not plant this, I only have swamp milkweed. Neighbour bird must have gifted me some. I will attempt to transfer it to my butterfly garden with the rest.

No pic, but it was definitely a monarch. First one I've seen this year. I've had milkweed in my yard for years.
