Only about 100 LRFF in this new camp, which is a little way downstream from the previous observation. Note the GPS reading is taken from the walking track from which you can see the camp, which is near the river. Bats become restless if approached to within a few metres.
Note: on the 16th of March at about 8:30am, I photographed a small cluster in this camp, about 5 or 6 bats hanging off each other.

Checked camp; more than 200 bats. Camp not very visible from walking track. Dollarbird calls may be audible in the background of the audio file. The dark photo is the view of the camp from the walking track. The other 2 photos are taken closer to the camp.

This is preumably the same group of bats, but they moved downriver. Noted to be absent from the previous site as at 6 Feb. This area had a severe thunderstorm on the 6th. The new site is about 200m downriver and is in a much more protected, heavily vegetated area along the River. Photos to follow. About 200 bats in the camp.

Seen at 9: 10 and again an hour later.

Camp of over 200 (as at 10 Jan. 2020) Little Red Flying Foxes. In Silver Wattles & Red Gums on the bank of the Goulburn River. Previously seen at this site in Dec. 2015 & Dec. 2013.

ID info: wingspan less than 1m. Wings red-translucent when back-lit. From about 6 Jan. several were hanging in the 'banana bunch' clusters that LRFF often do. That is a cluster of up to about 8 bats, each hanging off another bat & one or 2 bats only hanging off the branch.

NOTE: the LRFF have left this location, as at 7 Feb. 2020.

Further note: Peter Mitchell discovered a site downriver where the camp is now located. It is a much more protected spot.
