This wasp is exactly 1 cm long. I am not sure of my identification. I caught it in a net after I was stung in an area of my yard away from my house in thick vegetation and near a rock wall. I also caught a Golden Paper Wasp there, which I posted yesterday.

A week ago I was stung by an umbrella paper wasp that was living under the eave of my house, so I sprayed 3 hives with peppermint soap and water and then destroyed the hives. The soap mixture seemed to kill the adults within seconds as they dropped to the ground. But today, in another part of my yard I was stung again. This time I captured 2 of them alive and took photos. These wasps were flying around my rock wall, going into numerous small holes, as though they were searching for a new home. I am not sure of my identification and would appreciate some help. I also found another, smaller wasp which I will post later.

Mr. Binder found these two borers in the small branches that fell from an Acacia Formosa (aka A.confusa) tree. It was obvious that the branches fell because the borers chewed right through the stems. The large one is 13 mm long.

Shady stream bed at 1330 ft. elevation more than one km from the nearest house was filled with tiny hungry mosquitoes. Not having collection equipment, I squashed a few before I got this one that was still identifiable. I wrapped it in a piece of Kleenex and put it in my hat for the walk home.
This identification reinforces my theory that this stream could be a major route for the spread of A. aegyptii from the lower elevations to the upper areas around Waimea, even though there are no human habitations along much of the stream.
