Hello! I spent 23 years working as a professional habitat conservation planner in Eugene, Oregon, with a focus on wetland and riparian habitats. My hobbies include making music, dancing, and photographing and watching butterflies and birds, both here in Oregon and abroad.

My primary expertise as a naturalist is in native butterflies of Oregon. I am the owner and creator of www.butterfliesoforegon.com, a comprehensive guide to the native butterflies of Oregon. This website includes photos of all of Oregon’s described butterfly species that breed regularly in the state, as well as information on how to identify them, where they occur and when, what larval host plants they use and their current conservation status. You can use this website like an online field guide. Just go to www.butterfliesoforegon.com.

I have more than 10,000 butterfly records in Oregon including 170 taxa, stored in my own custom-designed database. Of those 10,000+, more than 2,200 are photo-documented, and the rest are sight records only. Since October 2022 I've submitted over 2,500 of my photo-documented butterfly sightings to iNaturalist, including records in Costa Rica, Colombia, and Ecuador.

In the winter of 2022-23, I became an admin for the Butterflies of Oregon Project on iNaturalist. I review a lot of iNaturalist butterfly submissions in Oregon to help keep our butterfly data for the state as accurate as possible.
