I was born onto a family ranch in the North Umpqua valley, on the Little River confluence into the Umpqua at Glide, Oregon to be specific. Nature was everywhere for me as a child and both my grandmothers were trained in botany, so I had exposure to identifying species and both vernacular and scientific nomenclature. Three years of studying forestry at Oregon State gave me some formal training in biology, dendrology, and soils. A life long interest in all things science has kept me somewhat up-to-date, but it happens so fast that it's hard to keep up. iNaturalist provides a very welcome venue for my 'little scientist' nature geek to be part of a community of like minded people. My main interest is to document the species in my urban neighborhood and along the Waud Bluff Trail down Mock's Crest to Mock's Bottom, which is nearby.
