Join us for our 2nd Annual Tidepooling Bioblitz at Pelican Cove. This Bioblitz is part of the Snapshot Cal Coast, which is a state wide effort to get as many sightings of plants and animals living along the California Coast as possible over a 2 week period (June 23-July 2, 2017). Sharing your observations will help researchers to better understand and protect marine life in California.
We will be documenting the diversity of the area of the Pt. Vicente SMCA as part of snap the coast initiative. Partners include Aquarium of the Pacific, USC Sea Grant Program, Terranea, and the Los Angeles MPA Collaborative.
We will share information about the natural history of the tidepools and to increase your knowledge and awareness of Marine Protected Areas.
We request that all participants sign-up through our Eventbright link. Additional information including what to bring to the event, an iNaturalist tutorial, examples of species we may see, and a release form will be shared with everyone that signs up through Eventbright.
Parking is limited at Pelican Cove, so we highly recommend carpooling if at all possible. We will do a brief, onsite training on how to use the iNaturalist app and general tidepool etiquette in the Pelican Cove parking lot before the start of the Bioblitz.
Bring your smart phone and camera, a hat, a water bottle and dress in layers wearing sturdy shoes for the trail down. Make sure to park in a legal parking space. Look forward to sharing an adventure.
