Ninth dead whale found in San Francisco Bay Area this season.

A whale has been found dead in the San Francisco Bay Area, making it the ninth found dead in the area this season.
The Marine Mammal Center announced a dead gray whale washed ashore Monday at Ocean Beach in San Francisco.

Bear sightings on the rise.

Although black bear attacks are rare in California, they are typically defensive in nature because they are surprised or defending cubs, according to the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

“Injurious black bear encounters and attacks are extremely rare in California, but they have occurred,” stated Fish and Wildlife officials. “There is no single safety strategy applicable to every encounter, and bear behavior is not always predictable.”

Point Reyes–Time to Remove Cows.

Point Reyes National Seashore was established in the 1960s by the purchase of private ranches. The public paid fair market value for these lands. Livestock operations were to removed over a 25-grace period. But time and again the ranchers refused to leave OUR property.

Baby Deer Rescued From Storm Drain in Bay Area.

A baby deer got stuck in a storm drain and was rescued by firefighters Wednesday in Pacifica.

The fawn was caught in the drain on the corner of Crespi and Barcelona Drive, according to North County Fire Authority. The area is not far from Sweeney Ridge Trail and San Pedro Valley County Park where wildlife such as deer are found.

Dead whale in Pacifica becomes carcass No. 10 over past two months.

A whale is seen washed up in Pacifica. As of Saturday, 48 gray whales had been found dead on West Coast shores.

Bear cub named Paradise returns home after recovering from Camp Fire burns.

The plan is to release a rehabilitated bear cub back into the hills where it was found in March — starving and with burned paws, and the conspicuous absence of a mother bear, which means it was likely orphaned in the Camp Fire.
