Starving sea lion pups appear 2 months early, foreshadowing ‘dismal year for marine mammal strandings’.

Officials at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center worry that early-season strandings of starving and sick sea lion pups could foreshadow a high number of rescues in coming months.

FRC students collar deer to study wildlife up close and personal.

“To be allowed (so) close to wildlife was an amazing experience,” said Kyla Deocampo, one of 14 students in the Environmental Studies 240 class that received crucial training and safety tips, like how to keep a deer safe while studying it, avoiding getting injured by antlers and staying clear of wildly kicking hooves.

Mountain Lion Kills Dog, Attacks Another In Simi Valley.

A miniature schnauzer was killed early Thursday by the mountain lion, which had been reported Wednesday night by another family whose dog was also attacked.

Study finds California could triple southern sea otter population by recolonizing San Francisco Bay.

The picture of sea otters frolicking among kelp beds and rocky shoals has become an iconic image of the California coastline. But it may be drawing attention away from the value of other habitat that could truly help the endangered species in its recovery - estuaries.

Foreboding sign for Monterey Bay sea lions.

Rescue organizations in southern California are finding sea lion pups sick and emaciated, stranded on beaches without their mothers months earlier than in previous years. This may not bode well for marine mammals in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.
