During Urban Biodiversity Challenge (UBC), we should remain cautious of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sekitar Kita would like to remind you to follow all health SOPs during your activities. Stay safe and stay healthy!
1) Keep a distance. Animals do not like crowding or loud noises (they might run/fly away!) 🦋, so it’s a good idea to observe individually at a distance.
2) Remember to wear a mask 😷 in public places! It can also protect you from pollen allergy.
3) You may not realize what you’re touching when you’re out there documenting. Protect yourself from the COVID-19 pandemic and other transmissible animal/plant disease by constantly washing your hands 🤚✋🧴 and not touching your face.

Have a blessed Ramadan everyone! We would like to share a few tips on personal health to ensure that you are ready for the challenge that are being held from 30 April to 9 May.
1) Prepare for your day of fasting by drinking 🥛 enough water throughout the night to keep you hydrated during the challenge.
2) Don’t go alone. Always let someone know where you’re going during this challenge. 📱
3) Eat dates during sahoor because it can fuel your body with much needed energy.
4) Say SubhanAllah! 🥰 when you’re marvelling at the wonders of the natural world. 🤲
5) Listen to your body. If you’re feeling tired—rest, stop or continue later if you can.

Hi everyone, the observation period for City Nature Challenge (CNC) has ended but Di Sekitar Kita: Urban Biodiversity Challenge (UBC) is still ongoing! Only 4 more days left until the challenge ends - 11.59pm on 9 May 2021.

Great news! You can now get a Letter of Recognition from UNDP Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei Darussalam if you have participated in the challenge and fulfilled any TWO of the following between 30 April and 9 May 2021:

• A minimum of 50 iNaturalist observations in total
• Participation over at least 3 days
• Participation in at least 2 different locations (e.g., home and park)

We will announce soon on how to apply for the Letter of Recognition.

Pemerhatian menarik hari ini ialah Assassin Bug (Acanthaspis petax) dijumpai di Tanjung Bungah, Pulau Pinang oleh @albertkang. Lihat bahagian belakangnya yang sangat pelik! Apakah "bola" dibelakangnya itu? Rupa-rupanya Assassin Bug ini akan membunuh berpuluh-puluh ekor semut dan kemudiannya "memakai" bangkai mangsanya untuk menyamar daripada pemangsa. Our Observation of the Day is this Assassin Bug (Acanthaspis petax), seen in Tanjung Bungah, Penang by @albertkang. It has a very strange body; looks like something stuck together in a ball. Turns out, this Assasin Bug likes killing black ants and would "wear" the victims' carcasses as camouflage! It can carry as many as 20 dead ants at a time.
