Eliott - Fungi observation: The Violet-Toothed Polypore

The Trichaptum biforme, commonly known as Violet-Toothed Polypore, is a fungi that can be found on remaining logs of dead trees. The mycelium is eating the dead wood from the inside, which greatly contributes to the maintenance of a health ecosystem. They develop violet-toothed shaped mushroom on the outside which are reproductive structures. They are not edible but very beautiful and can make your outside hike a worthwhile experience.

Sam - vegetals of Mont-Royal - shepherd's purse phylogeny placement

As seen on this picture, the shepherd's purse (or capsella bursa-pastoris) shares its most recent ancestor with 19 other species like Capsella rubella for example. A recent adaptation that this plant has and that seems to be quite unique among my observations is the fact that it keeps blooming all year round. Finally, I have found that the common adaptation to all of my species is their type of metabolism : the colors of the leaves I observed (green) allowed me to deduce that all of those plants are able to perform photosynthesis in order to produce organic matter.
