It was a big year for Mahogany Creek Bushcare with the clearing of extensive areas of arum lily, elderberry and honeysuckle and starting work on the lantana, privet and camphor laurel. We planted Over 200 plants of varying species. Wildlife sightings were extensive with eels in the creek, various frog species, swamp wallabies, water dragons, bandicoots, wombat and echidnas, and over 30 species of birds. We had 7 volunteers join us across the year. We also had a wonderful indigenous walk with council rangers Ronnie & Adam to view some axe grinding grooves on the creek bed.
In 2023 we will hopefully start off spraying the new elderberry re-growth and having largely controlled the spread of arum lily we can poison the new growth and start extensive plantings. Also in 2023 we will hopefully see another Mahogany Creek bush care group forming on the Northern side of Illaroo Road. Council will also be looking at doing drainage works and restoration of the creek.
