newt survey 4/01 - southern half (Aldercroft)

17 dead newts, 0 live newts.
April 1, 2020 (Wednesday) 3:12pm
Weather: Dry, sunny, 65F, gorgeous.
Other roadkill: 1 grasshopper.
Coverage: Aldercroft Heights Road intersection to stop sign.
Rainfall: MTD 0in, YTD 18.07in (per http://www.weathercat.net/wxraindetail.php?year=2020)
Traffic: 2 walkers, 8 bicycles, 3 motorcycles, 43 cars, 7 parked cars fishing despite the reservoir being closed

Hardly any today, which isn't really surprising given the dryness. None at all north of the Soda Springs bend. I did find several juveniles, all but one of them in the same area. I removed all the newts that I could, with a few failures that I've noted in the comment below.

North side - 4/1/2020

April 1st, 2020 (Wednesday) 9:30 am – 11:30 am: 0 live newts, 29 new dead newts, a few juveniles.
The weather was cold.
All newts observed today were new, as I removed everything last week. Today I also removed all newts but one from the road. I recorded the one that was left. I think it rained last over the weekend, and those 3-4 days that have passed were enough for some of the newts to dry completely. Some were already very difficult to remove from the road.
Other roadkills - some earthworms, millipedes, camel cricket, moth, snail, and a Western Skink. I also saw a live honey bee and a male honey bee on the road, and removed them.
Coverage: north part - the county park parking lot till the second stop sign.
Rainfall: (MTD: 0 in; YTD: 18.07 in). Data from - http://www.weathercat.net/wxraindetail.php
Traffic: 8 trucks, 24 cars (including County Parks maintenance pickup trucks), 8 bikes, 11 pedestrians.

Coverage: Aldercroft Heights Road intersection to stop sign.
3:10pm - 5:01pm

Dead newts: 12 (UPDATED - it used to say 15, but there are actually only 12 uploaded), almost all on the side of the road away from the reservoir

Bikes: 14

Weather: Cloudy, with occasional moist spit

So many cars! People entertaining themselves at the reservoir with the time off, I suppose. Had a good chat with one person who asked what I was doing.

And so many ticks! I looked down at one point and had 6 crawling up my leg.

Weird stuff keeps happening when I try to upload the photos from this week, they'll get up eventually.
