Geographic Range

This species is known from the type locality and vicinity of Maraynioc between 3,210 and 3,220 m asl in the Vitoc Valley, Province of Tarma, Region of Junín, Peru (Lehr 2007).

Population

It is known only from seven individuals collected over four person/days in 2005 (von May et al. 2008). It is likely to be a rare species (E. Lehr pers. comm. 2008). No new surveys have been conducted in the type locality or surrounding area (E. Lehr pers. comm. March 2013).

Habitat

Individuals of this species were found in the remnants of a cloud forest beyond the old village and former Hacienda Maraynioc; all were found during the day on humid ground beneath rocks next to a small creek (Lehr 2007). Gastrotheca griswoldi is the only other anuran known from the type locality (Lehr 2007). This species is presumed to breed by direct development.

Threats

It is possible that deforestation due to agriculture and cattle breeding, as well as associated pollution, may be occurring in the general area where this species occurs (E. Lehr pers. comm. March 2013). However, given the lack of recent surveys, it is not known whether and to what extent these potential threats could be impacting on this species and its habitats.
