Endangered baby yellow-legged frogs leave LA Zoo incubator for new home in Angeles National Forest.

The delicate yellow and brown frog, native to the mountains of Southern California, is the most endangered amphibian in the world, said Ian Recchio, curator of reptiles and amphibians at the L.A. Zoo and overseer of the first-ever breeding program for the rare species.

Boy, 3, Bitten by Rattlesnake in Allied Gardens.

The boy was taken to Rady Children's Hospital as a trauma patient, Munoz said. Barr said the boy is doing well and is expected to survive.

Rock climbers campaign to access local cliff closed to protect endangered frogs.

Williamson Rock is a sheer granite wall that rises from chaparral in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. Crisscrossed with 300 routes, it has been a proving ground for Southern California rock climbers since the 1960s.
But in a move that outraged many in the climbing community, the area was shut down in 2005 to protect an isolated colony of federally endangered Southern California mountain yellow-legged frogs from being trampled.

Lawsuit Over Whales, Sea Turtles Entangled in California Crab Gear Advances .

The Center for Biological Diversity is filing a motion for summary judgment today in its lawsuit against California over the state’s commercial Dungeness crab fishery, which is entangling record numbers of endangered whales and sea turtles.
